Onboarding PMI
Onboarding Landing Page Design
A design-focused project for the Project Management Institute (PMI) Bajío, aimed at creating a new onboarding section for their website. The section guides users through essential steps and information to get started with the organization.

PROBLEM
Volunteer onboarding was unclear and scattered. The chapter had few, intermittent volunteers and no single entry point. People didn’t know the steps, who to contact, or what was expected, so engagement and retention stayed low.
GOAL
In 31 days, deliver four things that make onboarding simple and consistent:
-
A Volunteers page (prototype) on the PMI Bajío site
-
Email templates
-
Standardized process for receiving volunteers
-
Content pack to explain benefits and how to start
IMPACT
-
For the community, this improves how PMI connects people to real opportunities, supporting sustainable growth of the chapter.
-
A single entry point for volunteers: clearer steps, less confusion for first-timers.
-
Standard emails made outreach and follow-ups faster and more consistent.
-
A documented process gives the chapter a repeatable way to receive and track volunteers.
What I learned
-
Practiced Scrum daily (standups, sprint planning, reviews, retros) and tracked velocity.
-
Wrote small stories with clear acceptance criteria and managed the Jira backlog.
-
Communicated early about risks/blocks (e.g., credentials) and offered alternatives (Figma prototype).
-
Kept brand in mind while designing a simple, useful page.
FIRST DRAFTS
wireframe.
I sketched a very simple paper wireframe for the new Onboarding section on the existing PMI website (desktop).
The goal was to agree on layout and content order before moving to hi-fi.
-
Quick pen edits (headings, button placement, links)
-
Reused site’s header and spacing to match the current style
-
Took a photo and shared it in Jira for team alignment
DESIGN
color palette.
We used the official PMI brand guide. Neutral backgrounds for readability, PMI accents for CTAs and links, and AA contrast for text and buttons.
Typography and spacing follow PMI standards to keep the new section consistent with the rest of the site.
Responsibilities
-
UI for the onboarding page (layout, hierarchy).
-
Led standups and helped the team apply Scrum in practice.
-
Managed the Jira backlog (stories, priorities).
-
Created the onboarding email templates, set tone, structure, and copy guidelines.
-
Gave feedback on copy/assets (videos/infographics) and supported basic QA.
